The Future Materials Foundation

Envisioning a world where sustainable materials play a central role in addressing the urgent environmental, social, and economic challenges we face today.

The Future Materials Foundation (Stichting Future Materials) operates as a hybrid platform with the Future Materials Bank as its key component. This online material collection is supported by a programme of activities, that expand its scope and activate the knowledge archived on the Bank. The supportive programmes consist of the Future Materials Encounters, the sample collection hosted in the Future Materials Lab, and the Fellowship programme. Each of these elements play a crucial role in advancing our vision.

While the Future Materials Bank serves as a global resource accessible to a wide audience, the Future Materials Encounters offer opportunities for hands-on learning and the exchange of ideas and experiences. The Fellowship programme, in collaboration with the Jan van Eyck Academie, supports emerging material research in the creative field by offering time, space, infrastructures, and knowledge to promising creative makers. The Fellowship allows new materials, knowledge, and expertise to flow into the Future Materials Bank while also increasing its visibility.
